Devotional Passages 3/24/18

Psalms 4:8 (HCSB)
I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, Lord, make me live in safety.

Romans 6:23 (HCSB)
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Growth in the Faith

2 Peter 1:3-9 (HCSB)
His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.
By these He has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. The person who lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten the cleansing from his past sins.

Romans 10:4 (HCSB)
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Hebrews 8:10-12 (HCSB)
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord:
I will put My laws into their minds and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God, and they will be My people.
And each person will not teach his fellow citizen, and each his brother, saying, “Know the Lord,” because they will all know Me, from the least to the greatest of them.
For I will be merciful to their wrongdoing, and I will never again remember their sins.

The Vine and the Branches

John 15:1-4 (HCSB)
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vineyard keeper. Every branch in Me that does not produce fruit He removes, and He prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me.

Note from Kip:
We often miss the closeness that is intended for us with Jesus. He doesn’t desire we simply believe in him; after all the demons believe and tremble.
Jesus talking about Him being the ‘True Vine’ and our dependence and cooperation with Him to achieve the same goals.
How often do we find we are not cooperating, but rather are functioning independent of the will of Christ? The truly frightening thing is that we at time are in direct opposition to His will.
Our constant goal should be to embrace this inter-dependence between Jesus and us. It is in that condition that we produce the fruit that Jesus speaks of; it is in this vine that we a complete.

Psalms 19:1 (HCSB)
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.

Joel 2:12-13 (HCSB)
Even now — this is the Lord’s declaration — turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning.
Tear your hearts, not just your clothes, and return to the Lord your God.
For He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, rich in faithful love, and He relents from sending disaster.

Hebrews 13:8 (HCSB)
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

James 1:17 (HCSB)
Every generous act and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights; with Him there is no variation or shadow cast by turning.

James 1:5-8 (HCSB)
Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. An indecisive man is unstable in all his ways.
