Devotional Passages – 4/24/18

God So Loved!

For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (HCSB)

For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from the fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.

1 Peter 1:18-19 (HCSB)

Then the disciples came up and asked Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”
He answered them, “Because the secrets of the kingdom of heaven have been given for you to know, but it has not been given to them. For whoever has, more will be given to him, and he will have more than enough. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. For this reason I speak to them in parables, because looking they do not see, and hearing they do not listen or understand.

Matthew 13:10-13 (HCSB)

The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me Lord, Your love is eternal; do not abandon the work of Your hands.

Psalms 138:8 (HCSB)

For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these.

1 Timothy 6:7-8 (HCSB)

“My kingdom is not of this world,” said Jesus. “If My kingdom were of this world, My servants, would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. As it is, My kingdom does not have its origin here.”

John 18:36 (HCSB)

Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires that war against you., Conduct yourselves honorably among the Gentiles, so that in a case where they speak against you as those who do what is evil, they will, by observing your good works, glorify God on the day of visitation.

1 Peter 2:11-12 (HCSB)

The poor in spirit are blessed, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.

Matthew 5:3 (HCSB)

I know that all God does will last forever; there is no adding to it or taking from it. God works so that people will be in awe of Him.

Ecclesiastes 3:14 (HCSB)

Children, obey your parents as you would the Lord, because this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, so that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land.

Ephesians 6:1-3 (HCSB)

Note from Kip:
Parents often keep this passage tucked away for special situations when their young children misbehave.  I get it. It’s fitting for the situation.

But we all have parents. Living or passed on. Likewise, we are all children.

Let me ask you something that I’d like you to ponder in your heart before responding. Do we consciously consider, just how we ‘honor’ our parents?

Dad died several years ago; mom not so long and I will be straight with you, I do not always consider just how my actions reflect on them. I do from time to time, but it isn’t a regular practice with me.

After all, I am a parent too, so this is my time; right?

I’m afraid, not so much. We will always be children to our earthly parents.

Now, those who have turned their lives over to Jesus have a Heavenly Father as well. Just as we should consistently consider how we honor our earthly parents we should also consider just how we honor God.

He’s never apart from us, and while we may think we can step out of line with our earthly parents, with God the Father He is always with us. We simply, at times try to not think about it.

Honor your parents; honor God!
