Devotional Passages – 4/26/18

A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps.

Proverbs 16:9 (HCSB)

Therefore, He is always able to save those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them.

Hebrews 7:25 (HCSB)

This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” — and I am the worst of them. But I received mercy for this reason, so that in me, the worst of them, Christ Jesus might demonstrate His extraordinary patience as an example to those who would believe in Him for eternal life.

1 Timothy 1:15-16 (HCSB)

For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under law but under grace.

Romans 6:14 (HCSB)

A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.

John 10:10 (HCSB)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Hebrews 13:8 (HCSB)

Go and stand in the temple complex, and tell the people all about this life.

Acts 5:20 (HCSB)

Note from Kip:
This is out of the book of Act, obviously. But consider what the book of Acts has for its main focus. It conveys the establishment of the early Christian Church.

Jesus had Just ushered in the ‘New Covenant‘ and these folks were doing more than taking it out for a road test; they were living it every day.

The significance of the ‘temple complex’ is that this was the community square at the time. It was ‘the place’ to go to be heard. Therefore, these believers were told to get out of your pews and go out to where people are and tell them about ‘This Life!

This life that Jesus has given us. This life that has been purchased for us by our brother and our Lord. This life that we didn’t earn, but God saw fit to provide for us. Tell about ‘this life’.

If you go on to read, you’ll see that these believers were obedient and at daybreak they were there doing exactly that. And I find myself ashamed that so many times, not only do I not purposely go to the ‘temple complex’ to tell about ‘this life’; I often will reserve my speech when presented the opportunity  to share ‘this life’s’ story with those that I’m in even closer contact with.

How real is ‘this life’ to us? Will today find us in the temple complex; letting people know about This Life we are so blessed with?

I observed all the work of God and concluded that man is unable to discover the work that is done under the sun. Even though a man labors hard to explore it, he cannot find it; even if the wise man claims to know it, he is unable to discover it.

Ecclesiastes 8:17 (HCSB)
