Turn away from evil and do what is good; seek peace and pursue it.
Psalms 34:14 (HCSB)
Note from Kip…
We are hooked on adrenaline. Always looking for the next big thrill or the next salacious bit of entertainment. We call it art, entertainment, part of the show.
Evil attempts to pass itself off by attaching itself to things of beauty, and we as a culture buy into it.
God exhorts us to turn away from those things that are evil; to seek out that which is peaceful, graceful, and truly beautiful; and pursue that.
Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.
Be in agreement with one another.
Do not be proud; instead, associate with the humble.
Do not be wise in your own estimation.
Do not repay anyone evil for evil.
Try to do what is honorable in everyone’s eyes.
If possible, on your part, live at peace with everyone.
Romans 12:15-18 (HCSB)
May the Lord be praised! Day after day He bears our burdens; God is our salvation.
Psalms 68:19 (HCSB)
Teach a youth about the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6 (HCSB)
Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send Him to you. When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment: About sin, because they do not believe in Me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me; and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
John 16:7-11 (HCSB)
And just as it is appointed for people to die once — and after this, judgment — so also the Messiah, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.
Hebrews 9:27-28 (HCSB)
In this way, the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you, so that you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 1:6-7 (HCSB)
For I have often told you, and now say again with tears, that many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction; their god is their stomach; their glory is in their shame. They are focused on earthly things, but our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform the body of our humble condition into the likeness of His glorious body, by the power that enables Him to subject everything to Himself.
Philippians 3:18-21 (HCSB)
“No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you.“
John 15:13-14 (HCSB)
Don’t neglect to do what is good and to share, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.
Hebrews 13:16 (HCSB)
