Sent!

We have heard asked many times the question as to why were are hear. There are few things in nature that don’t serve some kind of purpose and mankind has constantly sought to understand the reasons for their being.

The answer to that is fairly clear, if we only look in the right places.

Note from Kip…
God has an answer to that question that really isn’t hidden at all. His Word tells us both primary and subsequent reasons we are here, why we exist and the purpose of our lives.

For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Matthew 7:8 (NLT)

So, we ask and we receive!

In the beginning the Word already existed.

The Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.

The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to  everyone.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

John 1:1-5 (NLT)

The answer start before the dawn of time itself. At a point were there are no yesterdays or tomorrows and all things are now. In science terms we might call this a singularity of existence.  There was God. There was The Word. There was their Spirit. These three were one, these three were distinct. They were in fact in everything as everything was a portion of who they were.

There was no boundaries such as time or distance for even these were creations of theirs. Quite literally everything we can touch, everything we can see, everything we can detect with any of our senses, had its beginning, in the beginning with the Word, the Creator, the Christ, Jesus.

Because time had no restraint over these three in one, they were able in one glance, to see all that transpires through out the time that the creator was to create. In that time and space that the creator would ultimately create He saw something He loved. He saw someone He loved! He saw US!

Knowing all and seeing all He knew the path to become one also what that part of His ‘yet to be created creation’.  He saw all that was required of Him and all that He would have to endure to secure that relationship with His creation, and He desired it more than anything else!

So at that very moment He resolved:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1 (HCSB)

And he did so, to initiate the sequence of events that would lead to us being able to be one with Him now, today.

We were made to be loved by the Creator and in His love for us He desired that we freely love Him in return. Not be directed to love Him, but love Him of our own free will.

It was because of this desire for our love that he set out the very first day that He created, on a path that lead to the Cross of Calvary, where at last He would create the Way, the path of salvation for all who would receive Him.

The Subsequent Reasons We are Here

We don’t have enough time, nor do I have the understanding to convey all the subsequent reasons we are here but we can run down a few of the more obvious ones that are significant to us.

Love

We were just talking about love, but love itself is something that is a God given attribute. He celebrates love. That should be abundantly evident to anyone that understands the creation event.  Love is a big deal to God.

So, He wants us to love. Him yes, but also each other…

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

John 13:34-35 (NLT)

He wants us to love our neighbor …

Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Galatians 5:13-14 (NLT)

He even calls us to love those who do not love us in return. Those who in fact hate us…

But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:44-45 (NLT)

Therefore the very first of the subsequent reasons for us being here is to love. Love not only God, but everyone else that is part of His creation. You don’t suppose the underlying factor to this is the fact that they are His creation and He desires that they love Him in return, just as you do? Yes, I think that is exactly the case!

Discipleship

Refer to that third passage back about loving each other. The one in John chapter five.  Notice how it ends there?

“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

A disciple is one who follows Christ Jesus. So you could say that one of the reasons for us being is to be a follower. But that is much too general. He wants us to be His disciples.  He wants us to be His followers!

So what is the core attributes of being a disciple? Too many to go into here, but the leading attributes would be to follow or imitate Christ, but the one thing that Jesus did more of than anything else was make disciples! So, we need to be doing that too. That is one of the subsequent reasons for us being here. As a matter of fact is a very big reason!

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)

It is called the Great Commission. We are to do it. It is our purpose as His disciples to make disciples. Consequently it is one of the top subsequent reasons for us being here, in order to bring those who do not know the Creator, to Him, introduce Him, and teach them to be His disciple as well.

We are Sent!

We are sent into a field of harvest, ripe with grain. It’s not a job designated to our pastors, or those wonderful people who spread the Gospel in other lands. They do that as well, but it is in fact our direction given to us to be sent out to collect the harvest. Make those disciples and teaching them the reason they exist.

We don’t need special training to begin this journey. The fact you are still reading this leads me to believe that you’re already on that very path.

We ill never be truly like Christ Jesus until the moment he transforms our body of corruption into those heavenly bodies He’s got waiting for us.

Until that time, we have a purpose, a reason for being here. We’ve been sent.

Blessings,
kip…
