The Spirit Gives Life!

It’s probably something that we talk about less than anything else which is common to all of us. Our spirit is what gives us life. It is and was the first gift given to humanity from our creator. Why is it then we spend so little time focused on nurturing our spirit from it’s very life source?

Note from Kip…

Jesus created us in the image of Himself and the Father. Genesis says that He breathed life into Adam. That simple phrase was so much more than the animation of soil into a living creation. It was the finishing touch of God on a replication of His being.

The Spirit is the One who gives life. The flesh doesn’t help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

John 6:63 (HCSB)

This was the last verse I quoted in yesterdays ‘Passages for Today’. It stuck with me all day yesterday and I knew what the Lord wanted me to write about this morning, the spirit. The one we have in us, the one that gives us life, and the reason that we never really know life fully until our spirit bonds with God’s Spirit.

In the Beginning

Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.

Genesis 2:7 (HCSB)

I’m not quite sure why it is that we fail to consider in the creation what God was doing when He ‘breathed the breath of life’ into our ancestor Adam. There is so much significance to these words that we often don’t even consider the ramifications of this act.

Have you ever wondered just why Jesus loves us so? Loves us so fervently that He has gone to infinite lengths to secure a path to redeem us. He’s God! He could have just as easily shrugged His shoulders and started over again after the fall. But He didn’t. He instead, persisted generation after generation. He humbled Himself to be born of a woman to experience life as one of us, even though He was God in the flesh, He did so as part of His ultimate plan, because of this radical love He has for us! Why?

I chuckle to myself because I’m going to use a phrase that is dear to Kenn Hamm.  The answers in Genesis! You got that spot on Kenn, the answer is in Genesis! It’s right here in this single verse sitting in the second chapter.

Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.

The Authorized King James Version stated the last part of this verse as “and man became a living soul.” The word here as soul and in the HCSB as being has a very broad scope of meanings. As you read it’s definition, it clearly makes up all that comprises every individual, including the soul or spirit that is in us giving us the ‘living’ part of this creation we call us, you and me.

What I want you to take away from this is exactly what God was doing when He did this ‘breath of life’. He was imparting the life force from Himself into this creation of His. Understanding that this is what our soul is, makes understanding why there is a yearning for understanding and being in harmony with the Spirit of God, it is simply because not only were we created in His image, He put a little bit of Himself in each and everyone of us, by the act of breathing His life into us!

Understanding this piece of the puzzle illustrates just why He loves us so. It makes it so much clearer when we see this because just as a mother has an unbreakable bond with the child she gives birth to, Jesus has the very same bond for us because from His life He gave us ours. Exactly like a mother gives her child life from hers.

It also explains what is described as the ‘God Spot’ in our being that is waiting to be fulfilled by the presence of the Holy Spirit, because if our spirit that gives us life has kinship with the Spirit of God then when the two are brought together the result has to be this unbelievable freedom and joy we hold inside ourselves when our spirit is aligned with Gods.

We are eternal creatures

It is the reason that when this body dies, we live on. God is eternal, the act of Him giving life to us with the transference of His life force into us gave us an eternal existences ourselves.

Sure this body has an expiration stamp on it that God, and He alone knows, but when this body is gone, we are are not. We live on. The only determining factor at that point is where we will spend the remainder of eternity.

This isn’t a subjective matter, because we assure our future existence in the presence of God if we invite Him to be joined with our current existence. Salvation by His Grace!

As simple as this seems

As simple as this all seems this is the ‘why’ Jesus loves me. It is why He has relentlessly sought us to be united with Him. In every literal sense, He is our life giver. Because of this indestructible bond He has with us, He want us to spend eternity with Him.

The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9 (HCSB)

Walking in the spirit means we connect with the source of the the life force within us, His Spirit communing with the spirit He gave us. Filling that ‘God spot’ in each of us!

I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Galatians 5:16-18 (HCSB)

Blessings,
kip…
