Love of My Life!

What did you learn in Sunday school yesterday?  I was reminded of something that was so obvious to me that I’m actually a bit embarrassed that I had not kept it on the forefront of my thinking. I realized the the true “Love of My Life!” Let’s find your’s.

Notice to reader – Effective going forward, ‘Devotional Passages’ will present the title of the the devotional rather than the name Devotional Passages. This is being done to be more effective in drawing in new readers these scripture based devotionals.  God Bless, Kip…

Note from Kip…

The Lord likes to put me in my place on a regular basis.  He did so again yesterday morning sitting in our ‘Adult Sunday School’ class.  Something that I really knew deep in my heart but really is something we should never allow to be buried under the rubble of our day to day lives.

The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 John 4:8 (HCSB)

What was pointed out to us sitting in the class yesterday morning, was a very close look at the underlined phrase above. The simple statement that, “God is love.

Before you start saying to yourself, ‘yeah, so!’, let me explain why this should be the central theme of your existence.

Many Christians understand that the Bible talks about various forms of ‘love’. Depending on the context and message, the different expressions of love are used in different places. Here the placement of this ‘love’ is extremely special.

If you have a Bible dictionary, Strongs Concordance, or some other tool you can look this up, but the use of the word ‘love’ in this verse is accurate.

I had never looked up the meaning of the word love here in this verse but our teacher in Sunday School did for this lesson and then shared it with us yesterday.

‘Love’ in this verse is attributed to God, equality with the value of agape love. Agape, which is often times referred to appropriately as God-Love is the highest form of love and is love which is sacrificial. It is love that disregards self and seeks to benefit the one on whom the love is bestowed.

It is the very exact same form of love expressed in this verse as well.

“For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16 (HCSB)

The point brought out by the lesson yesterday was this. You can set aside everything else you understand about God and place this at the very top of your understanding of God. God and love (agape love) are one in the same. They are inseparable. You can not define one without defining the other. This love is the very essence of God.

If you want an answer to anything, it can find it’s genesis in ‘God is love’.

Do you want to know the meaning of life? It can be traced to ‘God is love’.
Do you want to know why God formed covenants with his people? ‘God is love’.
Want to know why Jesus took on flesh and became like us? ‘God is love’.
Why did He have to hang on the cross? Because He is love!
What’s the rising on the third day all about? Love!
Why is He returning to take us to live with him forever?
Because, God is LOVE!

The Love of My Life!

Let me bring us back to the beginning of this devotional and actually what we see as the perceptible beginning period.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1 (HCSB)

Why?

He’s God! He had nothing that He couldn’t speak into existence on a whim. So we find ourselves (or at least I do) asking why bother with creation in the first place. Who is humanity that God would want to be troubled with this flawed creature called mankind.

The answer is that He is love and the love within Him is inseparable from Him. So, He took a week and in five days He did the ground work for His plan. On the sixth day, He created His masterpiece, us.

From the very dust of the earth, He had created man and then imparted a bit of His spirit inside this creation by breathing the breath of life, His life, into it to make man a living soul.

We are born of love people! Born out of Agape love. By the one who is defined as that very love. God is Love! Because He loved He breathed life into Adam, putting a small part of Himself in us.

Because He loved, He came to live among us and die for us so that we could share THAT love. Agape love.  Remember that this love is sacrificial and disregards itself for the other.

Since that moment that God put a bit of His spirit into Adam, God has been working to perfect this relationship of love He has for us. Because that spirit wants to be united with where it came from, with God!

An ultimately, it will.

Today, He lives in us as followers of His. We are to live in Him.

But soon, He will take us home to be in his presences constantly, forever more! And that, will consummate this Agape love we have with God if we are His.

You see, the love of my life is for the one who gave me life, in the beginning. The one who gave of Himself so as to redeem my life, by sacrificing Himself so that I could truly live. The love of my life is going to claim me for His own and we will live throughout eternity united in this love.

If you are a follower of Christ Jesus, then you’re realizing that He is the love of your life as well, because He is the very reason for your existence, salvation, and real life.

So we both have found the Love of our lives!

Blessings,
kip…
