Impending

Impending

Expected behavior…

There has been a clear indication that persecution was coming to believers in the United States. I think most Christians realized the handwriting on the wall when the words in our constitution proclaiming freedom ‘of’ religion, was hijacked and transformed into “Freedom from Religion” by persons who have a vendetta for anything in the public which suggests faith. Especially when that faith is centered on the very Judeo-Christian principles, on which this country was founded.

Today we are seeing a rise in antisemitic, and anti-Christian bias.

This is especially problematic for the true Christians because if you’re going to practice genuine Christianity, your faith is not contained inside four walls, it is lived out every moment we breathe.

I used the term ‘true Christians’ because there are many who think being a Christian is nothing more than a declaration, the same as they are trying to sell sexual designations today. All you have to do is say you are a Christian and you must be accepted as being one.

The thing is, if you are really a Christian, there will be a change in you which in fact will demonstrate that you are a true Christian and not a pseudo-Christian. The transformation begins the very second; we surrender our lives to the Master and Savior Jesus Christ and depend on him for our rescue from spiritual death.

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you previously lived according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient.

Ephesians 2:1-2 (CSB)

Straight up, if we chose to be his disciples then we should expect to suffer as he suffered.

Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same understanding — because the one who suffers in the flesh is finished with sin — in order to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer for human desires, but for God’s will.

1 Peter 4:1-2 (CSB)

If we choose to be his disciple, then we will pattern our lives a closely as we can to his. The logic in this is that if we do this and we read that Jesus was mocked and ridiculed; we shouldn’t expect the world to treat us any different from it did Him.

Part of this comes from the fact that what we entrust our faith in, makes little sense to the world or those who are trapped in the deception of this world.

Paul referred to our faith as being foolishness to those who are perishing.

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is the power of God to us who are being saved. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the intelligence of the intelligent.

1 Corinthians 1:18-19 (CSB)

They might not consider that they are perishing because the fact of the matter is that they haven’t yet lived spiritually. They have been born into a physical life but have yet to be born of the Spirit.

When we profess biblical truth before those who are outside of grace it will be met with harsh skepticism. The untransformed person is going to choose to trust only that which they have given what they believe to be hard evidence.

The folly of this is that securing that ‘hard evidence’ is so important to them they will choose to believe lies. Those untruths become a set of beliefs for them, so if we present the truth and it counters the prevailing explanation of how things are, it challenges their belief system, and in many cases, offends the non-believer.

We as believers and disciples of Jesus, shouldn’t expect that those who are not would accept the truth as reviled in God’s Word and would even become offended by our insistence that God’s authority outweighs mankind’s.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.” This is the Lord’s declaration. “For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Isaiah 55:8-9 (CSB)

Furthermore, just as Jesus’ proclamation of truth offended the powers that be; today we see a nation that was founded in tolerance of everyone’s religious beliefs, which is constantly exhibiting a increasing intolerance.

It is this intolerance that is going to be instrumental in driving persecution of the Body of Christ in America.

This persecution is creeping in through our court system and legislative halls, both federal and state. This insidious intolerance is becoming firmly established in our social and media norms. It’s not limited to the United States, as this intolerance is sweeping the globe, in venues where the laws protected the practice of religion are not being prodded into a more intolerant stance.

I’ve said this before and I fully expect that it will happen that I will go to login to Facebook and/or Twitter where I post daily devotionals only to find that the devotionals have been removed or my account has been suspended as a result of this intolerance for faith.

Persecution is impending from all directions. So, we must be prepared for it, because it will happen.

All these events are the beginning of labor pains.

Then they will hand you over to be persecuted, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of my name. Then many will fall away, betray one another, and hate one another. Many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

Matthew 24:8-14 (CSB)

We should expect that those who don’t rest in the grace of Jesus, will not accept what we have to say. We should expect that they will find our words offensive. We should also expect that we will see persecution because of the offence of the Gospel.

The only way that anyone is saved is when the Holy Spirit impresses in them the truth of the Gospel and they accept that truth and repent. It is only then that the Holy Spirit takes up residence in the new believer and the revelation of the Word of God can begin to be comprehended. Before that there is nothing but “Impending” death, that is in their sight path.
