Taking up for us…
June 5th, 2019
Most of us have very few people in our lives that would take up for us when we face accusations. But Jesus did and does even before we knew him.
His effort to be our advocate started before the beginning of time. It persisted through creation, the Kings, major and minor prophets. He followed through by humbling himself to become one of us, a very special one of us who was all man and all God. Not half and half, but whole and whole, so he could purchase the right to stand between us and judgement for a multitude of sin; telling the Father, “This one is mine! I have paid their debt.”
And when the Father looks at what would have otherwise been the subject of his wrath, all he sees is the righteousness of his Son, Jesus Christ!
(My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.) But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One, and he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world.
1 John 2:1-2 (NET)
The debt of the entire world has been paid. A sufficient supply of grace secured to be ample for every man woman and child that ever has been or ever will be. Not just pardoned by the application of the cleansing blood of the Lamb. Transformed and adorned with the robes of Christ’s righteousness. However, only if that grace is secured by faith in the Son’s capability and promise to redeem his lost possession for himself.
I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; I will be overjoyed because of my God. For he clothes me in garments of deliverance; he puts on me a robe symbolizing vindication. I look like a bridegroom when he wears a turban as a priest would; I look like a bride when she puts on her jewelry.
Isaiah 61:10 (NET)
There is a watered down false gospel that is being pushed down people’s throats all around us that says that God is Love and if we only love him back that he will make everything right between us and him.
These snake oil salespeople neglect to tell you that that God is just as full of justice as he is love and while he does love us beyond measure, he also can’t be conflicted by unrighteousness and sin. The reason he sent his Son was so that the repudiation of sin might be accomplish so he could share an eternity of joy and wonder beginning right this very second.
But that obliteration of our sin came at a cost to his Son. We must throw ourselves at the feet of the risen Christ and pledge our lives to him in faith, trusting that that sacrifice he performed was for us.
Jesus replied, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you have known me, you will know my Father too. And from now on you do know him and have seen him.”
John 14:6-7 (NET)
The marvel of the Trinity, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Three distinct persons in one Holy God. No one will see the Father or experience the Spirit without first engaging in a personal relationship with the Son.
These preachers of false gospels refuse to acknowledge the need for repentance and commitment to follow the risen savior. All they care about is that you love God enough to kick in some extra cash to fatten the coffers of their elaborate sanctuaries.
I will admit that I’m not a big fan of churches filled with smoke, specialty lighting, and spectacular stage shows with wonderful performers. The problem I have with them isn’t the smoke, though I can’t in my wildest imagination understand why it is important. Nor is there a problem with lights and a good performance. But when those things become more important than the Gospel of Jesus Christ there is something deadly wrong!
This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, that has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among people by which we must be saved.”
Acts 4:11-12 (NET)
Jesus is our cornerstone on which we build a life in eternity in bliss with the creator. He is the anchor point from which we can live a life above the sin and corruption of this dying world. He is the foundation for the joy and hope that permeates our very being when we surrender our will to his.
All this so He can stand before God and declare us his own, who has been purified by his blood and now wears the righteousness of the Son throughout eternity. Defended by our savior, our advocate who presents an irrefutable justification for us to spend eternity in his presents.
In the Grace of Jesus!
