Devotional Passages 3/6/18

Hebrews 11:5-6 (HCSB)
By faith Enoch was taken away so he did not experience death, and he was not to be found because God took him away. For prior to his removal he was approved, since he had pleased God. Now without faith it is impossible to please God, for the one who draws near to Him must believe that He exists and rewards those who seek Him.

Seeing God’s Glory

I think all too often we expect God to ‘show us’ something miraculous, as a precursor to our acknowledging His Glory.

John 11:40 (HCSB)
Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”

His Glory, is not subject to our recognition or approval. Likewise, there is no ‘faith’ involved in seeing God work in our lives.

Anyone who says, ‘Because God did this; I have faith’, is mistaken.

Hebrews 11:1 (HCSB)
Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen.

Belief is grounded in faith. Therefore, we don’t believe because we see, we actually ‘see’ because we have faith and as a result, we believe.

Romans 3:23 (HCSB)
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

2 Corinthians 7:10 (HCSB)
For godly grief produces a repentance not to be regretted and leading to salvation, but worldly grief produces death.

Devotional Passages 3/5/18

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 (NKJV)
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.

You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

We will suffer for doing the ‘right thing’. As children we are told that if we are ‘good’ that good things will come, but Jesus said that we will suffer for His name, but we are to be blessed when that period of suffering comes.

We aren’t laying up treasures here, we are making an

eternal investment, in the treasury of the Almighty.

The very same Paul who is talked about in the passage below, also wrote that regardless of what has come to pass, we must press forward to the prize that is Christ Jesus!

Paul and Silas Imprisoned

Acts 16:16-20 (NKJV)
Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling.

This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days.

But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour.

But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities.

And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, “These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city

When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.

For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place.

Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore I will give men for you, And people for your life.

Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, And gather you from the west;

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
