Be Honest with Yourself! – 7/1/18

Be Honest with Yourself!

Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.

Romans 12:3 (NLT)

Note from Kip…
This morning started out a bit rough. The cell phone and watch didn’t charge last night. The alarm on the new alarm clock I bought (2nd one in two days) didn’t work for some reason just like the one that I have to return to the store; so now I have two alarm clocks to return. As a result, I’m a bit late getting started in my day which the enemy knows is a real tender spot in my armor.

I realized what was happening, perhaps in the nick of time. I began thanking God for those things which He has blessed me with. I gave Him praise for who He is. Thanksgiving for what He has done and continues to do each and every day.

With that, I started my devotions. Powered up my laptop; turned on my mouse and knew exactly what topic I wanted to talk about; what God had shown me already this morning; the importance of self examination.

First verse I happened on was the one at the beginning of this posting.

“Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.”

I smiled knowing I’d just been assured that for once, I had reacted to Satan’s attack on me correctly. Not that I never do! But as the passage reads, being honest, I don’t react as I should a good bit of the time too!

Then the battery on the wireless mouse gave out! Thank you Lord!

It is important that we follow Christ Jesus, in fact that is an understatement. It is critical we do.  But I’m guilty of getting caught up in the doing at times that I forget what I’m doing it for. That’s not a good place to find yourself.

But it is when we pause and seek the Lord’s guidance and provision in our lives, that we can put our hearts and minds in a position where we can honestly evaluate, what’s going on, what my underlying attitude is, where that attitude is heading and then make the necessary adjustments.

See that phrase ‘make the necessary adjustments’, that’s something called repentance.  See, this morning even though I did the right thing in going to the Lord in prayer and thanking Him for being Him as well as all the blessings He bestows on me; I should have done that before I ever felt the twinge of becoming irritated about what was happening this morning.

My starting point this morning gave Satan an opening to begin picking at that spot where he knows by observing me, I am likely to get riled up. So when I gave him that shot, he began to pick and it was starting to work!  I was feeling that frustration welling up inside me.

True, I did respond to that feeling appropriately. But it shouldn’t have had to get that far for me to kick it up to God and let Him deal with it, being thankful that I know that He will. Because, He does that sort of thing all the time for me!

Rejoice always!
Pray constantly.
Give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (HCSB)

If I had been doing that, the soft spot in my armor would never have been exposed. I would not have become frustrated. I had strayed from where I should be and was somewhere wandering, rather than being at the feet of my Lord.

So I repented, or made the necessary adjustments, as it were.

Honestly examining ourselves, can bring us to closer fellowship with Jesus. Helps us get back on the path and aline our thoughts with His.

Blessings,
kip…
