Is it Real?
Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:9-11 (NLT)
Note from Kip…
I would imagine that those who read these devotionals would anticipate, that today I would write something about misfortune or the fallacy of believing in bad luck, because it is Friday the 13th of July. Luck be it fortunate or troublesome, isn’t what is weighing heavy on my heart.
I’ve been challenged. I would like to take that challenge and put it to you to consider as well.
In the last couple weeks, I’ve gained a new awareness of my neglect to my responsibilities as one who believes in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I realize that revelations are part of a Christians growth path. God reveals something to us in His Word through His Holy Spirit. We suddenly have an epiphany which becomes clear as can be. Something that was hidden from our view prior to that moment, now embossed on our mind and heart.
When we are faced with such things we basically have two options. First of course is to blow it off and go about our business. The second is to take it to heart and allow it to be the catalyst for a change in you. Of course the correct response is the latter one.
And I have done that with this realization. I have fully embraced it and am changing my behavior as a result. But this epiphany is something I must share because to be a disciple of Christ Jesus defines us as a message of His Gospel and to be perfectly honest, I have not done that effectively thus prior to this.
Christ Died for Sinners
But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!
Much more then, since we have now been declared righteous by His blood, we will be saved through Him from wrath. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by His life!
Romans 5:8-10 (HCSB)
Simple Gospel truth; Christ died for us, so that we might live through Him!
How real is that to us? I’m going to lay this out using an analogy. Jesus taught using parables. I could try and do that but am no where nearly as competent to craft a story with a spiritual meaning as He is. For me, using an analogy then explaining the parallels is a bit simpler for me to handle.
You are standing in a building and suddenly a fire breaks out. It spreads rapidly and there is no other option but to flee the building to escape the flames. You depart the building and once a reasonable distance from the burning building you turn and look back thankful that you made it out with your life with little more than some singed hair and mildly scorched skin.
But when you look back the building is now totally engulfed in the flames.
Just then, you realize that a blind person is making his way to the inferno. Apparently he is unaware of the danger that waits for him inside that building, but because it is what he has always done he is destine to go in there.
You have two options. One you can remain silent and allow him to go in the building. Or you can warn him of the fire and the peril he faces if he chooses to remain on his course.
What will you do?
Is the Gospel Real?
The message you would convey to the blind person is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The burning building is the path on which every living soul has set their course to if they have not received the message and heeded it. And each and every one of us is the messenger who stands safe outside the flames.
Will you tell him of the danger? Beyond that would you not tell everyone about this peril that awaits them?
The time isn’t right.
I’m too busy.
I wouldn’t want to be rude.
I first have to develop a friendship with them.
Someone else can do it!
If the Gospel is real to us, we have no other choice but to act upon it.
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can his faith save him?
If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it? In the same way faith, if it doesn’t have works, is dead by itself.
But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith from my works.
James 2:14-18 (HCSB)
In the very same way, if you say you believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that He is the only way by which we can be saved from the torment of sin and hell, that in our lost condition we are bound for destruction; if you believe this you would act upon this information. If you don’t, then you really don’t believe the Gospel of Jesus.
You don’t because there is a world of souls out there headed into a burning building without a clue why what they are doing is going to lead to their very destruction. And yet, you with salvation assured by the Blood of Christ, stand by and choose not to act. You choose not to intervene. You choose not to spread the Gospel by which you have been made whole.
What will you do?
If you truly believe the Gospel you will do everything in your power to deliver that message in any way you can to as many as you can. If you believe in the flames and the catastrophe that awaits anyone who does not alter their course and follow the path to salvation, you will try your best to divert them from their course
If you don’t what will you say when you stand before the judge at the throne of God?
The time wasn’t right.
I was too busy.
I didn’t want to be rude.
Someone else should have done it!
Surely you wouldn’t have said, I first had to develop a friendship with them, because I would be afraid that the Lord might just say that you failed to develop a friendship with Him and depart as He doesn’t even know you!
I attempt to bring a lighter side to these devotionals whenever it is possible. But today I cannot. There are too many souls destine for the fire. I have been guilty of not caring enough, not making the Gospel real enough that it became a top priority for ‘me’ to stand in the gap and alert those who are destine to destruction, that there is a way; The Way. And that way has been paid for by Christ Jesus.
But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:12-13 (HCSB)
There is ‘Good News’ out there. We are the messages of that news and there is no way to escape that fact. It’s not someone else’s responsibility. It is yours and it is mine. We are the messengers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We either believe that Gospel and act upon it, or we selfishly hold it too ourselves. If you believe the Gospel, if you believe that Christ is the Son of God who died for your sins, so you you might be saved; you have no other recourse.
Are you a disciple of Jesus? Are you truly obedient to His commands? Do you believe in His Gospel? Is it real to you?
